Mayor of Newtownabbey and Alliance Councillor Billy Webb has condemned those behind a device that was thrown at police and injured two officers as they responded to an alarm call at a toy store in Newtownabbey. The attack happened in the Mill Road area at about 12.20am today.
Cllr Billy Webb said: “I am absolutely appalled at the brutality of this attack. My thoughts are with the injured officers and I hope that they make a full and quick recovery.
“This was a cold and cowardly attack and there is revulsion in the community at news of this.
“We owe the police massive gratitude for the courage they show in their work and they should be allowed to go about their vital work without fear of attacks like this.
“Anyone with information on this incident must contact police immediately to help ensure that those involved in this can be brought to justice.”
