Lyttle welcomes new Step Ahead-type scheme as boost for jobseekers

Alliance Employment and Learning Spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has welcomed news that a short-term version of the Step Ahead scheme is being implemented by Minister Stephen Farry which will help hundreds of people to gain work experience in the voluntary and community sector. The scheme will benefit 500 participants in offering them up to ten weeks fixed term employment in the voluntary/community sector.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “This is good news and a boost for jobseekers. The scheme will provide excellent work experience in the voluntary and community sector to people looking for work.

“This is obviously an extremely difficult time for employment and the Step Ahead scheme provides very valuable experience for people to boost their employability.

“Minister for Employment & Learning, Stephen Farry, is doing an important job in upskilling our workforce and providing opportunities for people seeking employment. This good news demonstrates the Minister’s ability to deliver for our economy and he must be commended for securing the funding to enable this project to go ahead.”
