Lyttle welcomes local investment

Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has welcomed the news that an East Belfast construction company has been awarded a contract to carry out remedial work to a major local road.

Hardscape will supply the majority of natural stone paving for the Ravenhill Gateway Environmental Improvement Scheme, a plan of works by the Department for Social Development that will begin this month.

The contract will lead to improvement works at the Albertbridge Road and Short Strand junction, with works including the resurfacing of the road, new paving and kerbs, street lighting and landscaping such as planting of shrubs and trees.

The company will also carry out works in West Belfast, on the Andersonstown Road close to Milltown Cemetery.

Mr Lyttle said it was positive news for East Belfast.

“This is a double boost for the local area. Not only does a major road get an upgrade, which will be a massive benefit for the many people who use it on a daily basis, but it is a local company which has won the contract to carry the work out.

“It is the latest in a number of contracts won by East Belfast companies in a number of different areas and shows this constituency can attract investment from the wider regional society in Northern Ireland, as well as further afield, and I am sure it won’t be the last either.”
