Lyttle welcomes Harland and Wolff turbine contract boost

East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has welcomed news that Harland and Wolff has won a contract to build a tidal turbine for Orkney based renewables company, Scotrenewables Ltd. He said this news illustrates the potential for growth of the green economy in Northern Ireland and called for the implementation of the Green New Deal for the region.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “This is fantastic news for Harland and Wolff and for the local economy. East Belfast has a proud industrial heritage which will be safeguarded by this type of project. The gaining of this contract is testament to the great work that is carried out at Harland and Wolff and the expertise of the staff.

“This contract shows the potential that Northern Ireland has to capitalise on work involving the green economy. I would like to see a Green New Deal strategy implemented for the region to help harness this potential and create new jobs.”
