Lyttle welcomes funding to support older people

Alliance OFMDFM spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has welcomed the announcement of a scheme by the Big Lottery Fund worth £1.5 million towards supporting older people. The fund will help those affected by bereavement or long term illness. Cancer Focus will get£500,000 to reduce the level of late diagnosis of illness and Action on Hearing Loss will receive a similar amount to help those elderly people with hearing loss or who are deaf.

Chris Lyttle MLA said:”This scheme that will help support older people will go a long way towards improving the lives of vulnerable members of our society.

“I am very glad that two hard working organisations in Cancer Focus and Action on Hearing Loss will receive funding from this scheme.

“Early diagnosis has been shown to improve the chances of survival and full recovery and this funding will be a huge help to achieving these aims.

“A high proportion of older people live with hearing impairment and I commend Big Lottery for the leadership they have shown on this issue.
