Lyttle takes special educational needs nursery concerns directly to the Minister

Alliance Education Spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA will take the fight to stop cuts to Special Educational needs nursery provision to Stormont on Tuesday, presenting a petition to the Education Minister on the issue.

The Vice Chair of the Education Committee, alongside representatives from Parents for Equal Education Coalition, are aiming to reverse a recent Education Authority proposal to reduce full time places to part time.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “This is an important issue that the Minister must commit to taking seriously, rather than simply passing the buck to the Education Authority.

“He has a duty to meet with and listen to the concerns of all involved – especially as the families have lost confidence and trust in the Education Authority after its failure to disclose parental and principles oppositions to these proposals.

“The Education Authority’s failure to meaningfully engage with parents on this issue has left them anxious and confused on this important matter. The Education Minister cannot afford to treat them with the same disdain.”
