Lyttle speaks at protest against unfair tuition fee rises

Alliance Employment and Learning Spokesperson Chris Lyttle today spoke at a rally in Belfast city centre about unfair cuts to education funding and the increases in tuition fees imposed by Westminster.

Chris Lyttle said: “I was pleased to support this peaceful and purposeful demonstration against the unfair cuts to education funding and unfair increases in tuition fees imposed by Westminster.

“Radical action is needed and it is very clear that we need to free up money wasted on the cost of division in our society to help prevent large rises in tuition fees.

“My colleague Naomi Long MP voted against the Westminster fee increase to £9,000 per year and she is lobbying for a review of the decision. If such issues are not reviewed, the Northern Ireland Minister for Employment and Learning will face a very difficult decision with regard to tuition fees. We will work with all parties to deliver fair access to higher education in Northern Ireland and ensure adequate funding for universities here.”
