Lyttle signs up for Solstice Run in aid of Children’s Hospice

Alliance East Belfast MLA, Chris Lyttle has joined hundreds of other runners who will take part in Belfast’s first ever Solstice Run on Friday 21st June. Celebrating the longest day of the year, the five kilometre two lap run, jog or walk event will begin at 8pm at Belfast City Hall and the local MLA will be hitting the streets along with his Assembly Assistant, Kate Nicholl.

The Solstice Run has established famous routes in different countries across the world, with thousands of people taking part by entering to run, walk or jog. This will be the first time the event will take place in Belfast and it is hoped that hundreds of people will register to take part in support of charity partner, Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice is the official charity of the event so it’s a chance to have some fun whilst making a difference to the lives of local children with life-limiting illnesses.

“This will be a great run as the route will take in lots of our city’s landmarks along the way. I would encourage people to come along and take part for such a worthy cause.

“As we face rising physical and mental health issues, we should be encouraging participation in these types of events to have healthy minds and happy bodies.”

The Solstice Run is a closed road race, taking participants on a journey around the famous inner streets of the City Centre, passing popular landmarks including the Albert Clock, St. George’s Market and the Linen Hall Library. The event will appeal to people of all ages and abilities. For more information about registering or donating, please go to nihospice.org
