Lyttle seek assurances following decision to close Dundonald branch of Northern Bank

Alliance East Belfast MLA Chris Lyttle has sought assurances following the decision by Northern Bank to close their Dundonald branch in November 2011. This branch will merge with the Branch on the Knock junction of the Upper Newtownards Road.

East Belfast Chris Lyttle MLA said: “This decision is regrettable but I have sought assurances from Northern Bank that alternative facilities such as ATMs will be installed in the area after the branch is closed. They have informed me that this is part of their plans and they are looking for the most appropriate location. This will help ensure that the older and less mobile residents in Dundonald continue to have access to services.

“Northern Bank has also advised that existing customers do not need to change their account details and can use any other branch that is most convenient for them. I will seek updates from Northern Bank as to further developments.

“I understand the concerns that this decision may have an impact on the footfall on the high street and will affect local businesses. We must do all we can to protect our local shops and ensure that they are given the relevant support to continue their business.”
