Lyttle says the families of the ‘disappeared’ deserve answers

Alliance OFMDFM spokesperson Chris Lyttle MLA has said that the families of the remaining ‘disappeared’ deserve to be given answers about the location of their loved ones’ bodies. His comments were made ahead of an Assembly debate on a recent BBC/RTE documentary on ‘the disappeared’.

Chris Lyttle MLA said:”The issue of ‘the disappeared’ is one of the most harrowing events during the Troubles.

“I was deeply moved by the words of the relatives in the BBC/RTE documentary. I greatly admire the courage they have demonstrated over such a long time. I was however, particularly disgusted by the attempts of republican paramilitaries to spread false rumours that their loved ones were still alive.

“It is time that we ended the suffering of the families of the ‘disappeared’ whose bodies have yet to be found. They deserve answers of what happened to their loved ones.

“The documentary raised several questions about Gerry Adams which he is uncomfortable answering. There is a need for all republicans to disclose any information they may have on ‘the disappeared’.

“I would urge anybody with any information about these murders and secret burials to come forward and contact either the police or the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims Remains.”
