East Belfast MLA Mr Lyttle was speaking after the Belfast man defeated Scott Quigg on a split decision at the Manchester Arena on Saturday (February 27) to add the WBA super bantamweight title to his IBF belt.
“Congratulations go to Carl Frampton, his camp and his family for his amazing win on Saturday, which saw him become a double world champion,” he said.
“He continues to do himself, his family, Tigers Bay and everyone in Northern Ireland proud. It is not only his boxing skill and dedication but also the dignity and respect with which he treats others that is inspiring and uniting our community in support of him.
“It was fitting he was accompanied to the ring by a number of Northern Ireland football players – it shows there is a generation of sportspeople who support one another and work together to reach their potential, regardless of their background.
“The Northern Ireland Assembly and Executive should be seeking to follow their lead and emulate this unity of purpose on all matters.”
