Lyttle relieved that no one was injured in East Belfast alert

Alliance East Belfast MLA, Chris Lyttle, has commended the actions of the Police and Army in dealing with a suspicious device, believed to be a grenade from World War Two, during an alert in East Belfast on Thursday.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “I am relieved that no one was injured after this device was discovered in Dundonald. Even though it appears to date from World War Two, it may still have been viable and would probably be unstable after so many years. It may have had the potential to cause serious injury or death.

“I must commend the Police and Army officers who put their lives at risk to protect the public during this alert. This was yet another demonstration of their bravery and courage.”
