Lyttle questions Minister on flooding on roads following Friday’s havoc

East Belfast Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle has put the issue of the havoc cause by flooding on roads in East Belfast on Friday on the Assembly agenda today. The Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy will be answering Chris Lyttle’s urgent oral question on the issue at 3.30pm today.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “It is simply unacceptable that some of our roads simply become rivers after a significant downpour.

“Early warning mechanisms must be put in place to ensure traffic flow is not interrupted. We need to ensure all measures are pro-active and are well funded to help prevent traffic chaos due to adverse weather of the type we saw on Friday.

“This type of disruption must not be allowed to become a regular phenomenon. We need strong procedures and adequate resourcing of measures to deal with the problem of flooding.”
