The MLA for East Belfast congratulated the local company after it completed a 1,500 tonne renewable energy substation, bound for a wind-farm close to Liverpool.
Chris Lyttle MLA said: “This is an excellent piece of work by Harland and Wolff. Hopefully this will be the first of many orders of this kind, providing a welcome boost to Northern Ireland’s economy.
“In these challenging economic times, companies constantly have to strive to remain relevant and competitive. The move by Harland and Wolff towards the renewable energy industry showcases its forward-thinking and engineering talents on the world stage
“The Alliance Party is a long-time supporter of renewable energy. We want to see a Green New Deal adopted across Northern Ireland and will be calling for a Renewable Energy Support Bill to come before the Assembly as part of this.
“Harland and Wolff has recognised the importance of the renewable energy field and this step has opened the company up to a wider market. By not pursuing a renewable energy strategy, Northern Ireland is missing out on future potential investments.”
