Lyttle hopes new bicycle and bus safety scheme will encourage more people to take up cycling

Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle, who is Chair of the Assembly Group on cycling, has welcomed the new safety scheme ‘Bus and Bike Travelling in Harmony’, which was launched today by Translink, The Department for Regional Development, Sustrans and Travelwise NI. It will provide advice for both bus drivers and cyclists on how to share the road safely.

Chris Lyttle MLA said: “I am very pleased to see the issue of cyclist safety being taken seriously by Translink and the Department for Regional Development.

“There is a need for all road users to show respect to one another. As we see more bicycles in use, it is important that others know how to be vigilant for their presence.

“As the number of cyclists on our streets increases, unfortunately so has the number of accidents that they have been involved in. I hope that initiatives such as this one will lead to greater safety levels that will encourage more people to take up cycling.
