Reports revealed a living room window and glass panel on the door of the property were smashed early on Wednesday evening.
Councillor John Blair said: “This must have been a frightening experience for the inhabitants of the property and my thoughts are with them at this time.
“Criminal damage of any kind is never acceptable and I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward immediately and help police with their enquiries.
“People have the right to feel safe in their homes and it is very disappointing to hear of this incident in North Belfast.”
