Lunn welcomes temporary closure of controversial Lisburn landfill

Lagan Valley Alliance MLA Trevor Lunn has welcomed the announcement that the controversial Mullaghglass landfill site outside Lisburn is to be closed. Today, the Environment and Heritage Service announced the closure on a temporary basis, due to the increase in the number of flies in the area.

Mr Lunn, who is also Mayor of Lisburn City Council stated: ” I strongly welcome the news that the Environment and Heritage Service has ordered the temporary closure of the Mullaghglass landfill site

“I hope that this move will give much-needed relief to all the local residents who have been so badly affected by problems emanating from the site in recent times. Local people’s lives have been made a misery because they have been plagued by flies coming from this landfill site.

“The Council must thoroughly examine the outstanding issues that are causing problems and ensure that they can be tackled to everyone’s satisfaction.

“Given the good weather that we have had in recent weeks and the prospect that the weather will improve further during the summer, this closure is a welcome and extremely necessary development.”
