Lunn welcomes decision to increase Shimna Integrated College’s enrolment

Alliance Education spokesperson, Trevor Lunn MLA, has welcomed the decision to increase the enrolment of Shimna Integrated College from 480 to 540 pupils, with its admission number increasing from 80 to 100 and its sixth form centre increasing from 80 to 120 students in September 2014. From September 2015, its admission number will increased by a further 20 each September to a maximum of 620 pupils by September 2018.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “This is a great message of support for the integrated education movement. This announcement is in line with the Education Department’s obligation, as the Minister himself has stated, to encourage and facilitate integrated schools who wish to expand.

“I believe we should be doing more to develop the integrated education sector. While the Minister has concentrated on shared education campuses, I believe there is a need to deliver both education models.

“I look forward to future announcements by the Education Minister on the expansion of other integrated schools where demand exists.”
