Lunn shocked at school repairs funding failure

Alliance Education Spokesperson Trevor Lunn MLA has expressed shock and annoyance that there is a backlog of school repairs worth £217 million waiting to be completed. He said that schools should be a safe place for our children and said it is vital that the repairs are completed urgently. The figures were published in the Irish News this morning.

The Lagan Valley MLA stated: “I am staggered by these repair backlog figures. It is scandalous that so many schools require urgent repairs but have been left waiting by Caitríona Ruane.

“Our schools are meant to be a safe place for children, not an accident waiting to happen. A headmaster of a primary school recently his expressed his frustration at the lack of maintenance at his school, saying that he spent as much time doing the plumbing and electrical work as teaching.

“In these days of health and safety as a key priority I am amazed at these statistics. This is another important reason why the Stormont Executive has got to get back to work now.”
