Lunn shocked at attempted hijacking of gritter lorry

Alliance Policing Board member, Trevor Lunn MLA, has condemned those who attempted to hijack a gritter lorry in Londonderry and force the driver to take a suspect package to a Police station. The driver managed to escape, abandoning the vehicle on the Madam Bank’s Road. The Police searched the vehicle but nothing was found.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “This is the latest in a series of alerts in recent weeks in Londonderry, where lives have been put at risk and disruption caused to residents. There can be no justification for the actions of those behind these incidents.

“This must have been a terrifying experience for this driver. He was providing a service for the whole community to make our roads safer on an icy morning, yet these thugs prevented him from carrying out his job.

“Those responsible pose a real danger to the public and must be urgently apprehended by the Police. If anybody has any information about this incident then I would urge them to contact the PSNI or Crimestoppers.”
