Cllr John Blair said: “I am delighted that I will be able to represent Alliance as the first Deputy Mayor of the new Antrim and Newtownabbey Council.
“There will be many difficult issues that we will face during the first year of the new super council, but I hope that Councillors from all parties will work together for the benefit of the ratepayers. With new community and planning powers, Councillors will have a greater level of responsibility and a duty to provide better engagement and communication with the community to deliver better results.
“We will face many challenges as Newtownabbey and Antrim Councils converge but I hope that we will be able to deliver a higher quality of service at a lower cost to households.
“I look forward to working with all the Councillors and believe we can make great progress for the area.”
