Lunn says Poots must clarify his position on homosexuality

Alliance Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn has called on the Health Minister Edwin Poots to clarify his position on homosexuality after he failed to answer a question that Trevor put to him during Assembly Question Time on Tuesday. Trevor asked the Minister, given his responsibilities, whether he still holds the view, expressed by him and by members of his party, that homosexuality is an illness that can be treated by medical or psychiatric means.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “The Minister completely failed to answer the question that I put to him. I would have thought it would have been easy for him to answer what was a straightforward question.

“After several failed court cases which have undermined his credibility as Minister, I believe there is an urgent need for the Minister to clarify his position on homosexuality. After several members of his party expressed views about homosexuality being an abomination or an illness, the Minister should have taken this opportunity to speak out against such opinions.

“It will be hard for people to have faith in him if he is unable to demonstrate that he is approaching health issues on a rational, objective and evidence based manner.”
