Lunn – Paramilitaries have no place in our society

Alliance Policing Board member, Trevor Lunn MLA, has condemned those behind a paramilitary style shooting which took place in West Belfast on Tuesday night. Masked men forced their way into a house on Monagh Drive before shooting a 17 year old boy three times in the legs. He was taken to hospital but his condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

Trevor Lunn MLA said: “Paramilitaries have no place in our society. They are adding nothing to Northern Ireland except to bring violence and fear onto our streets.

“This was a despicable attack carried out by dangerous and callous individuals who must be urgently apprehended by the Police. What kind of sick person shoots a defenceless boy three times?

“My thoughts go out to this boy. No one deserves to be the victim of such a brutal and vicious attack. I hope he will be able to make a full recovery from his injuries.

“If anybody has any information which may help the Police in their investigations, then I would urge them to contact the PSNI or Crimestoppers.”
