Lunn fears youth service cuts could hit community relations

At the start of Community Relations Week Alliance Education Spokesperson Trevor Lunn has expressed serious concerns that cuts to youth services made by Education Minister Caitríona Ruane could impact negatively on good relations in Northern Ireland.

Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn said: “I have real concerns that the loss of these important staff will have a very detrimental impact on community relations.

“I want to urge the Minister to re-examine this area with a view to ensuring more resources are provided.

“It would be disgraceful if all the good work carried out in community relations becomes undone due to cuts, and grassroots workers like this should not have to suffer.

“£1bn is wasted every year on division and we need to ensure the right conditions are created to allow segregation to be ended. To do this, we need youth and schools workers like those affected by cuts, as they play an integral role.”
