The pipe bomb was discovered in Tamneymore Park in Derry around 2am today (Friday). Homes in the area were evacuated but residents returned after the device was made safe by army bomb disposal experts.
“Somebody could have been seriously injured or killed had this pipe bomb exploded, particularly as it was placed in the middle of a residential area,” said Mr Lunn.
“People do not want to see this sort of incident, which has no place in our society. The people behind it do nothing but cause disruption with their actions.
“I urge anyone with information about those behind this device to contact police immediately.”
