Long says NI parties must work together to get best deal after hung parliament

East Belfast Alliance MP Naomi Long has said that all the local MPs should work together as a group to get the best deal for Northern Ireland in any negotiations about who will form the future government. She said that the public have endorsed positive, policy-led politics and now MPs should agree a strategy to deliver maximum benefit for the public rather than pursuing individual party advantage.

Naomi Long MP said: “It is crucial now more than ever that all local MPs work together to secure the best deal for Northern Ireland in the talks over the future government.

“We need to speak with one voice to secure the best possible outcome.

“There is still the potential that 13 votes could be critical and we need to ensure that we make this situation work effectively for the people who elected us.

“Alliance has always strived to deliver cross-community co-operation and such co-operation now has the potential to pay massive dividends for this region. This moment provides the opportunity for us to protect the block grant, prevent unfair cuts and see that priority issues are addressed; however, we will only be able to maximize this opportunity if we work together.”
