Long says British Veterinary Association role is massive privilege

East Belfast Alliance MP Naomi Long has said she is very pleased to have been invited to become an Honorary Associate Member of the British Veterinary Association. Naomi Long has done much work on the issue of animal welfare and her invite has been formally endorsed by the BVA.

Naomi Long MP said: “Animal welfare is an issue that I feel very strongly about and I have campaigned on the issue on since I have been involved in politics. It is a massive privilege to become an Honorary Associate Member of the British Veterinary Association.

“I have been working to secure a ban on circuses having wild animals and I have also applied pressure to try and see the reform of dangerous dogs legislation to address attacks on other dogs and make the legislation more responsive to behaviour rather than simply breed.

“I have also been involved in World Society for the Protection of Animal’s ‘Not in my cuppa’ campaign which aims to stop the spread of US-style mega-dairies in Britain.

“The British Veterinary Association, through their members, helps deliver excellent service to farmers and pet owners throughout the UK and also plays an extremely important role in raising awareness of animal welfare issues. It is a real privilege to become an Honorary Associate Member of the organisation.”
