Long says Bombardier redundancies have rocked East Belfast

Alliance Deputy Leader Naomi Long, who is an Assembly Member in East Belfast, has said that the loss of almost 1000 jobs at Bombardier plants will put massive pressure on many families across Belfast.

Naomi Long MLA said: “This is a serious blow to East Belfast and to the wider Belfast area.

“Many families depend on these jobs at Bombardier to make ends meet and these redundancies will have a very negative impact on this area. My thoughts are with the affected workers and their families at this tough time.

“There will also be other very serious side effects with these redundancies like their impact on local shops and businesses.

“Manufacturing is generally is being hit hard at the moment, and this makes it all the more difficult for those being made redundant to find new employment.

“Employment and Learning Minister Reg Empey must ensure that there are adequate re-training services in place for those affect by this announcement. These losses make the work being done to attract new jobs to Northern Ireland all the more critical.”
