Long says Assembly needs restored as soon as possible

Alliance Leader Naomi Long has said the Assembly needs to be up and running as soon as possible in order to deliver for people.

The East Belfast representative was speaking after her party’s MLAs officially signed the roll of membership. She said the increased turnout in the recent election showed the desire for a return to power-sharing.

“Alliance’s election campaign was a positive one based on the need for change. That was reflected in our result, which saw Alliance’s vote increase by over 50 per cent. People responded to our message across the country, with a clear desire to see the institutions up and running again.

“It’s now up to the parties to get round the table and get a deal sorted as soon as possible. That is what really matters. People voted in the hope they would see that change and we would be able to move our society forward.

“Alliance’s new MLA team is focused on delivering that for people. We are in the talks looking for a positive outcome for everyone and will work to ensure others bring that same approach.”
