Long raises East Belfast green energy potential at Westminster

Alliance Deputy Leader Naomi Long MP has raised the economic potential in East Belfast of the expansion of wind and wave energy during questions to the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change at Westminster.

She called on the Government to work closely with the Northern Ireland Executive to ensure that the economic as well as environmental potential is harnessed.

Naomi Long MP said: “The development and expansion of wind and wave energy technology is already having a positive impact in East Belfast , creating jobs in research and development and in manufacturing. The work of local companies such as Harland and Wolff is leading the way, and is attracting inward investment in this sector.

“I want to ensure that the full potential of this sector is harnessed as it represents the kind of sustainable economic growth activity which is critical to rebalancing the Northern Ireland economy. Close working between the Westminster and Stormont is crucial if that is to happen.”
