Long meets local Association of Social Workers over plans for Bill

Alliance Deputy Leader Naomi Long MP has met with the Northern Ireland Association of Social Workers at Westminster, where she was presented with their draft Social Work Bill, which argues that reforms are needed to ensure that social workers can devote more time to core work of supporting families and individuals, rather than dealing with bureaucracy.

Naomi Long MP said: “This presentation of this draft bill to a number of MPs today is a useful opportunity to meet with the Northern Ireland Association of Social Workers and hear directly from them the kind of changes which they feel are necessary to allow them to do their work most effectively.

“We need to ensure that social workers are not over-burdened with paperwork so that they have time to carry out the vital face-to-face work which their job is really all about.

“Social workers play a central role in supporting and repairing the fabric of our society and help protect some of the most vulnerable people in our community. I look forward to working with them to find ways in which we can help them carry out that important work as effectively as possible.”
