Long condemns car bomb attack in East Belfast

Alliance East Belfast MLA Naomi Long has condemned those who left a bomb near a car in Kingsdale Park, Belfast, which exploded at around 7am this morning causing minor injury to a woman in the car.

Naomi Long MLA said: “I totally condemn those people who planted this bomb in Kingsdale Park. It is only by the grace of God that no-one was killed in what was a reckless and indiscriminate action which put not just the owners of the car but the whole community at risk.

“The people who are involved in this terrorist campaign are trying to drag this country back to the past, despite the fact the people of Belfast and the whole of Northern Ireland want to move forward together, unionist and republican. They have no respect for the will of the people, no respect for human life and nothing to offer our community but misery and despair.

“My thoughts are with the woman who was injured and I hope that she makes a speedy recovery. An experience like this will clearly have been extremely frightening and disturbing.

“I would urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the police. The people who did this must be caught and prevented from carrying out any more attacks.”
