Lo welcomes launch of NICEM manifesto

Alliance MLA Anna Lo has welcomed the launch of the Northern Ireland Council for Ethnic Minorities manifesto for the upcoming Assembly election on 5th May. Anna was the first ethnic minority to be elected to the Assembly. Along with Anna, the Alliance Party has also selected Hannah Su to stand in Fermanagh and South Tyrone in the upcoming Assembly elections.

Anna Lo MLA said: “This manifesto highlights the disadvantages that ethnic minorities often face in Northern Ireland such as in education or employment.

“It is important to increase the level of participation amongst ethnic minorities in our politics. We politicians must endeavour to enable them to feel they have a stake in this country and that they have a voice in the decisions that are made by government affecting their daily lives.

“My party will continue to work on behalf of all sections of the community. The Alliance party has demonstrated its support for people from all backgrounds by the selection of candidates such as myself and Hannah Su in Fermanagh and South Tyrone.

“I was extremely proud to be the first ethnic minority to be elected to the Assembly where I have represented every one of my constituents. I hope to continue that work in the next Assembly term if re-elected.”
