Lo says urgent action needed to attract Olympic teams to train here

Alliance Culture, Arts and Leisure Spokesperson Anna Lo MLA has expressed disappointment that so far none of the nations competing in the London 2012 Olympics have said they are coming to Northern Ireland for their training camp.

Anna Lo MLA said: “This is extremely disappointing news. Northern Ireland has so much to offer in terms of facilities and would make an excellent venue for training.

“We need answers from the relevant sporting organisations as to why we have so far not able to attract any teams here.

“Having teams training here would deliver significant economic benefits and I am very surprised and concerned that we have so far not had any contracts signed.

“The Minister needs to urgently examine what has been done to attract teams and report back as to how systems could be improved. We need to do more to attract teams to train here and deliver positive results so we can make the most of the potential Northern Ireland has as a venue. Everyone involved needs to redouble their efforts as it is very important that we get teams to come here to train.”
