Anna Lo MLA said: “I welcome this new traffic plan for the city centre and I hope it increases safety for everyone.
“There have been a number of tragic accidents involving pedestrians being hit by vehicles in recent years and action like this which could help improve safety is very positive.
“I am pleased there is more provision for cyclists and for public transport within this new plan as we need try and encourage more people to use environmentally-friendly forms of transport.
“Belfast city centre is a busy and vibrant retail hub and the provision of more controlled crossings is good news for shoppers and pedestrians. Belfast needs to make its centre more pedestrian-friendly and hopefully this plan will help deliver this.”
