Lo says action needed to improve safety on our roads

Alliance Environment Spokesperson Anna Lo MLA has expressed shock that 106 older people were killed or seriously injured on our roads here in 2010. She welcomed the launch of a survey on the issue by the Minister and said she hoped the findings would help to deliver proposals to address this troubling issue.

Anna Lo MLA said: “This is a horrific figure and I am shocked and saddened that the number of older people either killed or seriously injured on our roads in 2010 was so high.

“I am pleased that the Minister has launched a survey and the results must be used to inform changes to help address this deeply troubling matter. We need to explore radical and creative ways of improving road safety, and we must be unafraid of taking bold decisions to help try and save lives.

“We need to focus in on the factors contributing to these very shocking statistics. This survey could be a very useful initiative and I sincerely hope its findings will lead to action which could help reduce the tragic death toll on our roads.”
