Lo praises Employment Minister’s work on apprenticeships

Alliance Employment and Learning spokesperson, Anna Lo MLA, has welcomed the work by the Employment and Learning Minister on apprenticeships. The Minister announced in the Assembly to a question from Ms Lo, that 130 higher level apprenticeships have been piloted by his Department across a range of sectors and companies including PwC, Norbrook and Moy Park. He also stated that 400 new higher level apprenticeships places will be available by September 2015.

Anna Lo MLA said: “The Minister published a strategy on apprenticeships last year and has been working hard to ensure that the Northern Ireland workforce has the correct skills set to enable economic growth. He has sought to make apprenticeships the gold standard within our education and training sector.

“It is not only important that we attract companies to Northern Ireland, but that our employees have the skills and experience that they require.

“I am also pleased that he announced that 400 new higher level apprenticeships will be available from September 2015. This is real evidence of Alliance delivery in government.”
