Lo backs bid to stop cuts in community relations

South Belfast Alliance MLA Anna Lo has taken part in a protest today at Stormont against Education Minister Caitríona Ruane’s move to cut funding for community relations projects. An Alliance motion on the issue was recently passed in the Assembly.

Anna Lo MLA said: “It is vitally important that the excellent community relations projects in our education system here can be maintained, and these cuts simply cannot be allowed to take place.

“To tackle division and prejudice in our society we need to start by ensuring children have access to these types of projects in schools.

“Any funding cut will have a very detrimental impact on society, and strong community relations projects are essential to build the shared future that Northern Ireland needs. Segregation costs our society £1 billion every year and work to create a shared society is extremely important to help enable us to address this massive cost.”
