Lawther shocked by assault in Randalstown forest

Alliance Antrim Councillor Alan Lawther has expressed his shock after three women were locked in the boot of a car while the two men they were with were beaten by masked men armed with guns and baseball bats on Tuesday night. The two men, aged 26 and 21, suffered several injuries and were treated in hospital, the three women all aged 19 were unhurt.

Cllr Alan Lawther said: “I was very shocked by the viciousness of this assault. To lock three women in a car boot while assaulting their two friends shows the callousness of the men responsible for this attack.

“The men responsible for this attack are very dangerous individuals who are adding nothing to our society.

“This must have been a very traumatic event for both the women who were held prisoner in the car and the men who were assaulted. I hope that these two young men will be able to make a full and swift recovery.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police. The people responsible for this assault need to be urgently taken off our streets by the police to face justice before the courts.”
