The man suffered two suspected broken kneecaps after two men broke into his home at Islay Street, on the town’s Springfarm estate, shortly after 10pm on Thursday.
Councillor Neil Kelly said: “I am horrified at the nature of this attack and was disheartened to hear this violence had occurred in Antrim.
“This was a brutal attack on a victim targeted in his home. My thoughts are with the victim and his extended family as he begins his recovery.
“There is no place in Antrim for this type of behaviour and I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward to the police as soon as possible.”
