Hendron- paramilitary style attack has no place in 21st century

Local Alliance Belfast Councillor Maire Hendron has stated that the paramilitary attack on a man in East Belfast on Tuesday night has no place in the 21st century. Four men wearing balaclavas forced their way into the man’s home and beat him with iron bars, leaving him hospitalised.

Cllr Maire Hendron said: “I completely condemn this attack; it is just not acceptable behaviour.

“This type of attack has no place in the 21st century. An attack such as this one is just a relic of the past, which is where it should have been left.

“Attacking a man in his own home with iron bars achieves nothing. The fact that the attack was carried out by four men wearing balaclavas shows that they are just a bunch of cowards.

“It is also concerning that there have been a number of attacks in people’s homes in Belfast over the past week.

“I would urge anybody with any information about this attack to contact the police and I hope that the man makes a swift recovery.”
