Cllr Maíre Hendron said: “This was an appalling attack and I cannot fathom the mindset of someone who can carry out an attack of this nature.
“This would have been a deeply traumatic incident and I want to wish the man who was attacked a quick recovery.
“This type of incident is totally unacceptable and people want Northern Ireland to be free from fear and intimidation. I call on anyone who can help police to catch those involved in this to contact them immediately.”
