Cllr Máire Hendron said: “This was a brutal attack and my thoughts are very much with the man and the woman who were subjected to this sickening ordeal. I hope they both make a full and swift recovery.
“People who use violence have no place in our society. Those involved in this must be taken off our streets and I call on anyone who saw anything which could help police with their investigation to contact them immediately.”
