Griffin deeply concerned at pipe bomb find at former officer’s home

Alliance South Down representative David Griffin has said that it is deeply concerning that a pipe bomb found in Laurencetown, Co Down yesterday was left outside the home belonging to a retired police officer. The pipe bomb did not explode and was dealt with by the Police and Army.

David Griffin said: “This is deeply concerning that this retired police officer appears to have been targeted by dissident terrorists. I am deeply horrified by this attempted attack.

“In the past two years we have seen these terrorists target both serving and former police officers as well as those associated with the police. I would call on all those who could be potentially targeted to make sure that they take precautions against bombs of a similar nature to this.

“We have seen the deaths of two police officers in the past two years, and I am troubled by the continued wish of dissidents to bring death and destruction to our streets.

“If anybody has any information about this pipe bomb then I would urge them to contact the police. These terrorists must be stopped before they murder again.”
