ALLIANCE Party Justice Spokesperson Councillor Stephen Farry has welcomed the publication of the NI Affairs Committee report on hate crimes and called on the Government to proceed quickly in extending legislation to Northern Ireland.
Stephen Farry said:
“This report has further shone the spotlight on the growing problem of hate crime in Northern Ireland based on sectarianism, racism, homophobia and even disability.
“It is now almost four years since Alliance first requested the Government to extend Hate Crime laws to Northern Ireland. We are now the only part of the UK without equivalent legislation.
“The Government has been consulting on legislation for over 18 months. It is now time that they moved on to actually implement the protections that this report so clearly indicates that Northern Ireland needs.”
