Speaking in the wake of the bomb blasts, which struck an airport and metro station, Mr Ford said the emerging reports of many dead were shocking, with those behind them being condemned in the strongest possible terms.
“Today, the world stands with Brussels in the wake of these horrific attacks. The proximity of Belgium to our country and the many cultural links bring these acts of terror home.
“Alongside our shock, sadness and sympathy with the people of Brussels, these attacks bring a determination to not allow terrorism to undermine democracy and its very principles.
“Today’s acts were attacks on innocent members of the public – workers, shoppers and tourists. The message must be solidarity against those who would carry out such terror.”
