Ford Expresses Sympathy for Workers at Saint Gobain Weber’s Ballyclare Factory

Alliance MLA for South Antrim, David Ford, has said that the job losses at Saint Gobain construction firm in Ballyclare is further evidence of the current difficulties facing the construction sector.

David Ford MLA said: “I was saddened to learn of these job losses, I understand that roughly 27 people will be made redundant. It is a further blow to the local economy and is sadly reflective of the current economic difficulties in Northern Ireland, particularly in the construction industry.

“The Executive has recently announced a £200 million economy and jobs investment package, which has been roundly welcomed by those in the construction industry.

“However, the construction sector has been one of the worst hit areas of our economy, these job losses are further evidence of that. While other sectors have begun to get back on their feet, construction still appears to be facing a difficult time.

“As well as the investment package agreed by the Executive, I am willing to meet with local businesses, working in the construction industry, to listen to their on-going concerns.”
