Alliance MLA David Ford has congratulated PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Drew Harris after he was appointed new Garda Commissioner.
Mr Harris will take up the post in September, replacing Nóirín O’Sullivan and Acting Commissioner Dónall Ó Cualáin.
Former Justice Minister Mr Ford welcomed the appointment.
“Drew Harris has had a distinguished career in the RUC and PSNI, culminating in his present post of Deputy Chief Constable. His appointment as Commissioner of An Garda Síochána is well-deserved recognition of his achievements and I wish him well in the post.
“The new vacancy for Deputy Chief constable of the PSNI illustrates how vital it is to get a full Policing Board back in position.
“It is long past time the Secretary of State acted to put a full board in place – the issue is now critical.”
