Ford condemns Kells ATM robbery

Alliance Leader David Ford has slammed those involved in the theft of an ATM machine in Kells saying people must work with police to end this trend of thefts across Northern Ireland. The ATM was taken from the front wall of a shop on Main Street at around 3am last night and the digger used to remove the machine was then set on fire.

The South Antrim MLA said: “This was a despicable crime carried out by a well-organised and opportunistic band of thugs.

“This incident has also caused serious disruption in the village, with Main Street being closed to allow the digger to be removed and investigation work to be carried out.

“These are public cash points, but everyone must work with police to ensure they don’t simply continue to be easy cash points for crooks. We need to catch these individuals and the police need the public’s help to do so. Anyone with information on these robberies must talk to police to help them end this crime spree.

“This is a deeply worrying trends it appears that a highly organised gang is targeting these machines across Northern Ireland.”
