Coleraine Councillor Barney Fitzpatrick said: “This is absolutely devastating news. The whole community is in shock at what has happened.
“News of any death is deeply traumatic, but the loss of a young life is even more distressing.
“My thoughts are with the family of the boy, as one cannot even being to imagine their pain at this time.
“Police are currently treating the death as suspicious, and I would ask anyone with information to contact them immediately and assist them with their investigation.”
